UC Libraries OnLine Chemistry Resources

(1) Substructure and Reaction Searching
Beilstein Crossfire – Invaluable access to Beilstein organic chemistry database, which contains structures, data and literature references for >8,000,000 compounds and >5,000,000 reactions. Quick Guide to Beilstein CrossFire: http://chemistry.library.wisc.edu/beilstein/home.htm

(2) Substructure, Keyword, Author and Reaction Searching
SciFinder Scholar – The substance and substructure (back to 1957 with some classes going back to the early 1900s); keyword and authors (back to 1907), chemical reaction (1840 to the present- I am skeptical of this).

(3) Reaction Searching
WebReactions – Free database of 1-2 million reactions

(4) Cited Reference Searching, Keyword and Author Searching
Web of Science – Institute for Scientific Information's (ISI) easy to use Web-based citation database. Cited reference searching is invaluable and unique to this database.

(5) Keyword and Author Searching
Google Scholar

(6) Reagent Searching
eEros – A database of approximately 50,000 reactions and 3800 of the most frequently consulted reagents. It is fully searchable by structure and substructure, reagent, reaction type, experimental conditions and full text searches.

(7) Review Database
Synthesis Reviews – A database of 18,094 articles and books of interest to synthetic chemists (coverage 1970 to the middle of 2004) compiled by P. Kocienski and co-workers. The database is provided free to subscribers of Synthesis (downloadable from UCI). Synthesis Reviews is best imported into EndNote, although it could be searched with any word processing program. The database is not copy-protected and "copies can be freely circulated."
